Hello there.
I'm Ellie, a portrait artist from Richmond, Virginia; and, I’m so glad you’re here.
I believe there’s something special about portraiture. While technology continues to advance, fine art portraiture remains a long held tradition for capturing the people we love.
I would describe my portrait style as soft realism. I like color, fine details, and warmth. Children are inherently themselves and I love to highlight that.
I differ from traditional portrait artists in that I don’t always paint children in a formal smock or outfit. I like smiles that show a little teeth, and I incorporate more casual clothing.
Ultimately, I hope that my portraits feel approachable, modern, and true.
A little more about me:
I am a Richmond native. (I grew up in Henrico. I now live in Hanover, with my husband and our two boys).
I graduated from James Madison University in 2008 where I studied English Literature and Studio Art.
My mom was a professional portrait artist. She painted children for 20+ years before retiring. She remains my best and most formative teacher.
When I’m working, I listen to books on Audible. Louise Penny’s Inspector Gamache series is my go-to. I love her characters (two of them are artists!)
When I’m not in the studio, I love spending time with family and friends on Kerr Lake (or Buggs Island Lake, if you’re a Virginian).
